Changing the options doesn’t stick

Problem

I changed something in my options (graphics, turned on mods, ..) but when I restart the game, all changes are gone.

More and more antivirus programs offer ransomware protection. Often this leads to changes to the user files being blocked. You’ll need to add Sims as an exception.

This issue is caused by a corruption of the options.ini file which leads to the game not being able to save your changes. Because of this, all the game reverts the options to the last saved state.

Set all settings back to the original status. To do so follow these steps.

  • Close the game
  • Move the following file to the desktop: Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Options(.ini).
  • Start the game
  • The file is newly created
  • This also makes the graphics setting reset so you need to re-adjust them.
  • If it works afterwards, you can delete the Options(.ini) from your desktop.
