White Screen when loading world

Problem

Bad CC

I just bought the newest game/expansion pack and am trying to load the new world that’s part of the pack. Unfortunately I can only see a white screen. All other worlds work fine.

Bug

I played in a world for a while and also build there but now the world doesn’t load anymore and I only see a white screen.

Cause

  • The problem is caused by an outdated version  of  TwistedMexi’s T.O.O.L Mod.
  • The issue is caused by a corrupt residential rental.

Solution

T.O.O.L

Get the newest version of the mod or remove it.

Make sure to delete the file Documents\Electronic Arts\The  Sims 4\localthumbcache.package when removing the mod.

TwistedMexi is always fast with updating.

Corrupt Residential Rental

Method 2 is not tested for side effects and because of this, it’s still experimental. I only had two affected save games to test and it seems to make a big difference to how much is broken.

Let me know on Bluesky or AHQ what your experience is. I gladly collect more save games to test.

Choose this method if one of the following is true

  • You’re playing on console
  • You don’t feel comfortable to poke around your save game with an external tool.

Residental rentals are part of the expansion pack For Rent (EP15). You can either remove the pack of the corrupt world or for rent (also works for base game worlds) to fix this error.

You will loose all residential rentals in your save game if you remove For Rent. Because of this, make sure to save your lots to the gallery beforehand,

The following method has the disadvantage that all clothing/objects/.. of the affected pack will be lost on that particular save game.

The method does not work for base game worlds (Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, Newcrest).

Instructions

Create a backup of your save game in case something goes wrong

Load the save game and load all your homes/families that use something of the affected pack to your library or make a list what you need to add back later. Premade families and houses are removed from the pack when you disable/uninstall and placed back in their original form afterwards. If you changed something about them, you’ll need to save those as well.

Disable or uninstall the pack to which the faulty world belongs.

Load the save game through Load Game. You will receive an error message that packs are missing for that save. Ignore the message.

The world will be grayed out.

Save the game with Save As and give it a new name. This will remove all content of the pack from your save game. It should be fine to save from the the world but if that doesn’t work, load a family in the base game worlds and save there.

Close the game

Activate/Install the pack again (remove the line in EA app)

Load the save game that you have saved without the pack before.

You should now have only one world and the NPCs duplicates are also gone. Any changes made to the world are lost though.

You can now either replace all your houses/Sims from the library (Attention: This will strip all Sims from relationships they had with Sims outside of their household) or add the objects/clothing back manually. You will need also need to re-establish any occult statuses

Once you’re happy with the result, you can delete all backups you made.

This method is for advanced users and I recommend many backups. This allows you to go back if something doesn’t go as planned. Use this method at your own risk.

Please use this thread if you need any help or something is unclear: Corrupt rentals cause white Screen when loading world (Patch 1.109.207)

You will need Sims 4 Studio (S4 Studio). Please install it, if it’s not on your computer yet.

Instructions

Create a backup of your save game in case something goes wrong

Save files are just renamed package files so you can open them in S4 Studio.

Start S4 Studio and click on My Projects then navigate to your saves folder.

Sort by modified date and choose the newest file. Make sure to choose Sims 4 Save as file type so that the files become visible.

Choose Save Game Data on the left hand side and search for neighborhoods on the right (there are two so make sure to pick the first one).

Click on Edit Items.

Scroll to the world that’s not loading anymore and select it. Scroll on the right hand until you see neighborhood_id .

Make a note of the number by copying it into a text file. It can help you find the correct lot later.

Go back to the main window.

On the right hand side, scroll all the way to the bottom until you find zones. Click on Edit items again.

You can use the filter field to search for the affected lot if you know the name.

Go through each lot and check the neighborhood_ID to see if matches the ID that you noted in the text files. This tells you if the lot is in the correct world.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to filter by neighorhood_ID.

For residential rentals, there’s one entry for the lot (main entry) and one for each rental unit.

Filter by lot name and find master_zone_object_data_id. The value for this entry can’t be 0 for either apartments and residential rental lots otherwise the game throws an error.

You now need to correct all residential rental lots that have a master_zone_object_data_id that shows as 0.

First you need to find the main entry. Most often it’s the first entry but to be sure, you need to check what entries exist for that zone.

You need to go through all the entries until you find the main one.

Start with the first entry for the lot and scroll on the right hand side all the way to the bottom until you see zone_id.

Copy the ID to your clipboard.

On the main window, copy the ID into the filter field and filter by it.

The main entry has files called 00000012 (or similar) on top of the Zone Object Data and Save Thumbnails. If this is the case for the entry you’re checking, then you found the main entry

If that’s not the case, try all the zone_ID of the other entries until you find the correct one.

The master_zone_object_data_id should be the same for for all units of the residential rentals and match the main entry.

Copy the zone_ID of the main entry to your clipboard again and then paste it into the field master_zone_object_data_id for each entry.

Save your change and close the zone window.

Save the Package-File with File – Save as under a new name and close S4 Studio.

Start the game. If you corrected everything, the world should now load.

There can be further issues depending on how broken the save was.
