Sims aren’t promoted after level 10

This issue was fixed in Patch 1.54.120

Problem

My Sim is level 10 of his career and now he won’t get any promotions anymore. Instead his icons is stuck at work.

My Sim is at the top of one of the careers from Island Living and the promotion bar just stays at the top with the golden check mark. He’s never promoted.

Cause

I think that both issues are different although if the Sims would actually get promoted in the island living careers, the first error would hit them too.

For the first error, an exception in the code causes the process of the promotion to be cut short and the Sims will still show at work while he’s not.

Solution

The workaround below only works for the first case

Steps

To make the Sim earn money at all, it’s best to either put him in a new career where he starts over or quit the job and reenter which normally puts them one level lower. They will earn money if the performance bar isn’t full though. It’s just when a promotion is due where the error occurs.

Do the following steps to use the cheat console

  1. Open the cheat console with ctl-shift-c
  2. Enter the cheat you need in the entry box which appeared in the upper left corner of your screen.
  3. Hit ENTER
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for every necessary cheat.
  5. After entering all needed cheats, close the cheat console with ctl-shift-c

The level can also be adjusted with the cheat: careers.demote <career name>

To get the Sim that’s stuck at work unstuck, travel to a different lot. This partially finishes the process. The Sim will not receive their promotion and also no money at all for the day

The performance bar is reset so that the Sim can earn money again until they next hit promotion.
