After going through a lot of scenarios on trying to pull off a better language integration, I think I came up with a solution that will make things better.
Currently the situation is, that I run two different WordPress blogs for The Sims 4 and another two for The Sims 3 + 1 for my Gaming Blog that’s about all kinds of games. Keeping 5 WordPress blogs updated is a lot of work and after using Polylang for my Gaming Blog and the Unravel blog – which I have merged into the gaming one a while ago – I would like to use it’s advantages for the Sims 4 blog as well.
Unfortunately this is no easy task cause you loose precious links when moving from one URL to the other. Since I’m planning to go through my old posts and updating them where needed anyways, I’ve decided to abandon the English URL and move everything over to the German one and set that up as dual-language with Polylang.
What does that mean ?
First of all, there will be no new posts coming to this blog. Everything new is only being posted at this URL: Crinrict’s Sims 4 Help Blog with a language switch like the Gaming Blog offers that lets you read the posts in English or German
Over the course of the year, I will migrate all old posts over as well and making sure to set up re-directs. As this is going to be a long process, make sure to check both blogs or ask google until the process is finished.
I feel this is the best course of action in the long run cause Polylang makes it so much easier to have a blog in multiple languages. There will also less maintenance work for me.
As most folks find my page through search engines and links, I feel I won’t loose much doing it this way.
Sims 3 will stay as is as there are no new posts there and while the advantages would be the same, the work involved would out measure it’s perks.
Follow me on twitter if you want to stay informed on new posts. That will always give you the correct URL.
